If the poweroff -f works with wol, then there must be away of doing it so the computer goes through the proper shutdown procedure and not just kill everything like with poweroff -f? The standard kernel for Etch is of course 2.6.18-6-686 and the one causing concern for Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon is 2.6.22.14? Surely there is something that doesn't add up here? It isn't exactly the same kernel but one starts to wonder. I am like a fish out of water with some of the commands but it makes me wonder why this works with the standard Etch kernel but nothing else seems to?Įven more strange is the fact that they have reported this problem as a bug in Gutsy over at Ubuntu. The thing that worries me it is a brutal shutdown but what is a bit positive is wol works fine when I use that command? I have a new twist to this problem! Some where I read to try "poweroff -f " so you know me.I gave it a go. Well, I seem to be doing all the writing here I did, however, find some post that would suggest that things are ok with the network card and it is a programming issue.ĭown at post 14 there is a mention of commenting out two items in the /etc/init.d/networking file as follows: ![]() I have had some success with this program but because of changes of server computer my success was short lived. The security side of things isn't the main issue at the moment. I am using a program on the net to send magic packages to my computer which is outside my home network for ease of wol. I have checked all the obvious things like bios, ethtool and my D-link is working fine. I have a D-link 528t network card which is working with the r8169 driver. I have installed the basics to keep the packages down because of little ram, so I have no desktop installed. I have redone a few things and will give you a rund down to see if it rings a bell with all the experts here at Debian.ĭone a fresh install of Debian Etch standard kernel no upgrades. ![]() Hi again, been away for a while working on other projects.but this one remains quite open. I will be looking for info on wol using a windows computer to send the magic packet - but that is another story. I have installed both etherwake and wakeonlan on another Debian machine. How do you issue shutdown command from another computer without killing all the processes and leaving the computer you are supposed to be able to wake up not in standby but turned off?Īppreciate any help I can get on this matter. Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/FullĪdvertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/FullĮtherwake commands are a little vague, so if anyone can tell me how I set up the commands on another computer to wake up this one - i would be very grateful. ![]()
